StraightCue

Deliberate practice for pool players. Build drills, log training and test sessions, and follow your progress over time.

What it is

StraightCue is a training log for pool players who practice on purpose instead of racking balls at random. You build drills — a ball layout on a table, a rule for the shot, and a way to score it — then log practice in training mode, one tap per shot, or take a test when you want one serious attempt scored under pressure. Every score is computed on the server, so the number you see after a session is the same number anyone else would see from the same attempts.

Build drills

Every drill starts with a diagram: a pool table drawn on the diamond grid you already use to read position, with balls placed where you want them and, if the shot calls for it, a pocket highlighted and a ghost ball marking where the cue ball should finish. Six scoring types cover how a drill is judged — count, streak, pass/fail, ladder, points, and time against a par — and a drill's rules are written out in four short sections (setup, the shot, the goal, scoring) so nothing is left to guess.

Train

Training mode is built for the practice table, not a laptop: big pads for Make and Miss, one tap per attempt, and a scoreboard that updates as you go. A session keeps its place if the connection drops — nothing you've logged is lost — and you can undo the last attempt or finish the session when you're done.

Test

A test is one attempt, graded and timed where the drill calls for it, meant to feel like the shot that matters. Results are scored the same way every time and compared against your personal best for that drill, so you always know where you stand.

A graded, timed test and its result.

Progress

Every session and test feeds a chart: a series over time, your personal best, a 30-day average, and the streak of days you've kept training. Progress is where you see whether the practice is working, not just that you did it.

Series, personal best and streak.

Library and routines

StraightCue ships with a curated library of drills written in our own words — straight-in shots, position play, kicking and banking, and more — organized by game, table size, and difficulty. A warm-up routine strings several drills together into one guided run, so a practice session has a shape before you even walk up to the table.
